My Unforgettable Encounter: Peregrin Falcon and Greylag Goose in Jersey
In the unpredictable world of wildlife photography, being ready can sometimes reward you with the extraordinary. My recent experience at the Scrape Bird Hide in Jersey was a perfect example. I was fortunate enough to capture a once-in-a-lifetime shot: a Peregrin falcon momentarily hitching a ride on a Greylag goose. This blog post shares that incredible encounter, alongside the stunning visuals that came with it.
The Scrape Bird Hide is a hidden gem for photographers at any level, nestled within Jersey's vibrant wetlands. It's a place where patience meets reward, offering a front-row seat to the diverse birdlife of the area.
On this particular day, the prowess of Peregrin falcons was on full display. Known as the fastest animals, reaching diving speeds of up to 240 miles per hour, one such falcon decided to showcase its agility in an unexpected way. Amidst photographing a group of Greylag geese, a falcon swooped in, creating a spectacle by momentarily landing on the back of a goose. The resulting photos captured this rare interaction with vivid clarity, highlighting the falcon's precision and the surprising calm of the goose.
Also present was John Ovenden, a photographer whose talent for capturing the essence of Jersey's natural beauty is unparalleled. Witnessing the same moment, John's expertise added another layer of awe to the experience. His portfolio, a rich collection of the islands' landscapes and seascapes, further inspires any photography enthusiast. For those intrigued, exploring his work is a must.
