Why Bird in flight Photography Keeps Me Coming Back for More
This weekend is the first sunny one in a while, perfect for testing my new camera in great light.
Photography isn’t all about perfect conditions. Most Saturdays, rain or shine, I’m up early, hoping to capture something special. The reality, though, is that BIF (Birds in Flight) photography is tough. You can wait weeks or months for the perfect shot, and even then, "perfect" means something different to everyone. For me, it’s capturing a sharp image of a bird in motion—an elusive goal, but one that keeps me coming back.
Today, I spent the majority of the day photographing. The sunrise over St. Ouen’s Bay was stunning. The light was ideal, the birds were active, and I captured around 250 shots. I was confident that at least five were sharp. But when I reviewed them at home—blurry.
Here’s the thing—especially for beginners—sometimes you get lucky with a great shot. Other times, you can take thousands and only find a few worth keeping. And that’s fine. Persistence matters. Keep shooting, keep learning, ask questions, and connect with the photography community. With practice, your eye will sharpen, and those standout shots will come.
To all photographers out there striving for better shots—stay consistent, stay curious, and keep appreciating the beauty around you. #BirdPhotography #NatureLovers #PhotographyJourney #BIFPhotography #StOuensBay #BirdingCommunity #NaturePhotographer #KeepClicking #PerseverancePaysOff
